It's been forever since I posted any pictures. We had a new family picture taken right after Christmas....but for some reason have not been able to upload it onto the blog. I will have to get some help with that from Debbie. So I am posting the one with all the grandkids...all 13 of them.....for now. #14 should arrive in about 10 weeks.

Christmas Chocolates & Cookies

Our annual chocolate dipping took place a couple of weeks ago. They have all (well mostly all) been distributed and handed out to our many friends, co-workers, teachers, family....and many others.
They are delicious and we get so many compliments on them.
It all begins with 40 pounds of chocolate, 20 cups of sugar, 3 pounds of butter, 3 pints of cream, 5 cans of sweetened condensed milk, 25 cups of powdered sugar, 5 jars of Karo syrup, 8 bags of coconut, 5 jars of Marachino cherries and about 1/2 cup vanilla....and many nuts! (And not just us....the kind you eat.) Many hours of rolling the centers and a full day of dipping chocolates. We have lots of helpers.
Blake is in awe....the look of wonderment!

Trevor James Snyder

Debbie and Ryan are proud parents of another baby boy, Trevor James. He was born Nov. 4, 2010 at 12:35 am.
This is the vase of blue carnations and sign I had in the office announcing our 13th grandchild.
He weighed 8 lbs. 6 oz and is 20 inches long. Pretty good size for coming 2+ weeks early.

His cute little head of golden hair.

Blake is so excited to have a baby brother. Next post will have some pictures of Blake and Trevor.

It's so hard to post pictures cause I am so afraid of leaving someone out! Well this covers it! Denise and Brandon were visiting last week so all 12 grandkids were here.
Picture this....it is 90 degrees, high humidity, no breeze, we are by a lake (bugs) and look at those smiling faces....well...some weren't having it....but we tried! Thanks kids....you are the best!!! (Note...Natalie has a cast on her foot/leg.)

Drew Turns Two

A couple of weeks ago we celebrated Drew's second birthday. His actual birthday was May 1.
We had a fishing party for him at a local park. It had this great pier for fishing.

And a great park for big and little kids.

When Uncle Scott arrived.....all the kids want to see what kind of bait he brought.

Springtime

Last week we took the big boys to the lake to do a little cleaning up of the yard. We all picked up sticks and twigs from the yard. After a long winter of wind, ice and snow....the yard needed a good clean up so Uncle Scott could mow the grass.
Once the work was done.....there was time for some play.

And play they did!!!

We put up a safety net to keep the kids and balls from rolling into the street. Drew is trying it out for us.

I think it is going to work great! We will see when the whole gang comes over.

Easter Weekend

This is how we watched conference on Sunday. Bruce and Tiffany and family came over and we had snacks and played conference bingo.
On Saturday Brooke and I got matching pedicures.

Lauren helped me babysit while their parents went to a movie.

After the movie on Friday all the "boys" played a little ball in the backyard.

And Papa went swinging with the girls.

Tiffany already posted about Devon's big catch on Saturday. A 20 inch 20 pound wide mouth bass. Carter had to run home to get his dad and the camera.

Only a dentist would think to take this picture.

I wish the weekend didn't have to end.

Early Easter

We had an early Easter dinner the sunday before Easter because Brian and Heather and kids are on vacation this week. The highlight was the Easter egg hunt. Here's the three cool boys.

Mini Reunion

It was so fun to have Denise and Brandon and kids come for a visit for Brandon's spring break. Then Mom and Dad came too. Here is a 4 generation picture.

This was exactly 3 weeks ago when Denise and family arrived.

This is today...it was a very nice spring-like day.

We had a birthday party for Uncle Jim and the cousins had a blast playing together.

A Wonderful Christmas

This is what our Christmas Eve started out like.....freezing rain that covered the trees and sidewalks with ice. It was beautiful to look at....glistening everywhere! But not safe for walking.

Scott and Lisa prepared a wonderful dinner.

Dallin's Home

Brooke had colored a picture and the nurse hung it in his crib and I wanted Brooke to see how much he enjoyed looking at it.

A Busy Weekend

The weekend started out with our ward Christmas party. All the primary children acted out the nativity. Natalie and Brooke were angels.
And Tyler was a shepard.

Dallin is improving. Brooke loves to scrub up before going into the nicu.

I don't have any pictures from today. I forgot my camera. I was out shopping when Dayna called for me to come and pick her up from the hospital. Dallin is off the cpap now and only has his feeding tube. It was so good to finally see his little nose. He is just beautiful. He should be home really soon. My Christmas card is on hold until I can get a picture of Dallin without wires and tubes.

A couple of weeks ago I took Brooke to the mall and we got a picture with Santa. Here it is.

This past weekend Brian and Heather were out of town and Tyler and Natalie spent the weekend with us. We took them to the mall on Saturday in hopes of seeing Santa.....but the line was so long...it was their decision not to wait. So we did other things at the mall.

Like eat at the food court.

Sunday morning before church we got just a few pictures of Tyler and Natalie...so sweet!

After church Bruce and family stopped by.

A Perfect Dozen

Our 12th grandchild arrived this morning. We are so happy he is here. He has had a little respiratory distress and here he is on a cpap to help him breathe. His name is Dallin Wardell Ames. He weighed 7 lbs. 11.5 oz and 19 3/4 inches long.

Brooke was so fascinated with him.

We are so grateful he is here!

CHOCOLATE SATURDAY

This is the story of a long tradition.
37 years ago Brenda introduced me to the art of chocolate dipping. I have carried on this tradition along with Jill and now my daughters and daughters-in-law.
Here is a picture of most of the centers. This is the prep work that takes many ingredients and many long hours of making the candy and rolling it and freezing it until dipping day. This year we made vanilla creme, vanilla with cherry centers, coconut, caramels, and turtles. Heather made peanut butter centers and Jill made toffee (not pictured). Also not pictured is the 30 pounds of chocolate that we start with.
This is the time we got started....8:15 am.

A Day At The Mall

Since Dayna is on official bed rest until the baby is born I decided to take Brooke out for the day and experience the sights and sounds of Christmas at the mall.
She looked in all the toys stores and loved what she saw! She added everything to her Christmas list!

She had her pictures taken with Santa but they don't allow personal cameras so I will have to scan the picture and post it later.
The popcorn was a good treat while we walked and walked.

Watching how they made chocolate covered everything!

Tyler's 7th birthday was Nov. 19. His family birthday party was a Mario Bros. theme.

A Child's Perspective

I was reading The Friend with Tyler the other day. There was this game. There were many pictures and in each picture there were family members making either a right choice or wrong choice to make the home happy. If it was a right choice...then Tyler was to circle the letter in blue. If it was a wrong choice then he was to circle the letter in red. In the end all the circled letters spelled a word.
So we went thru the pictures and this one was very obvious.
And this one was too....

Then we came to this picture and Tyler immediately circled the correct letter....but I asked him why. He said "The mom is making too much noice vacuuming while the boy is trying to play his video game."

He got the letter right....but what the picture is telling us is that the boy should be helping his mother vacuum instead of playing the video game.....A child's perspective!

Autumn at the Lake

Sonny Acres Pumpkin Patch

It was a beautiful Autumn day and we decided to take the kids to the pumpkin patch. They have lots of pumpkins and fun activities and rides for the kids. I tried not to post similar pictures that Dayna posted on her blog....but we were all snapping pictures at the same time.

Childhood Homes

This will be a boring post for everyone except my siblings and parents....it might even be boring to them....but it was fun for me!
We took a drive to two of our children homes this morning and I took some pictures along the way. I don't remember this home...I was just a baby when my family lived here at 1518 Morgan Ave. LaGrange Park....but comparing it to pictures from the past....it sure hasn't changed much.

It's hard to see but here is the street sign for Morgan Ave.

I didn't know we lived so close to the forest preserves...our home was only a few houses away from a park and the entrance to the forest preserve. Maybe John and Jim remember that.

These next two pictures are where Oma and Opa's house was at 3505 Madison in Bellwood.

Opps...didn't know this was turned and I didn't turn it before I posted it....it was the old YMCA in LaGrange....we were at a stop light and didn't get a chance to take a picture of the sign that said the YMCA moved to a new location in 2007

Then on to 4901 Lawn Ave. in Western Springs

I didn't realize that the house actually faced 49th St. and Lawn Ave was on the west side of the house....did that get changed over the years?

Here I am taking the picture facing east and the sign showing that from Wolf road we would turn west on 49th St. to get to our house...but I always thought it was Lawn Ave.

Real Fish Stories

This was the big fish story of the day. Uncle Scott's big catfish.

What do you do on a 90 degree Saturday? All you need is Uncle Scott, fishing poles, a boat and lots of cousins....and this time a fishing net....and of course "the lake".

Cake-Cutting Announcement

We had a party tonight to announce the ultra sound results for Dayna and Randy's baby (due in Dec.). This is the invitation that Debbie made and sent out to everyone. Debbie planned the party.
Dayna told me the results and I made the cake.

We all got together and ate pizza, salads and desserts. We all gave our guesses. It was 14 for boy and 9 for girl.

We played some games......

Then we cut the cake and found out the baby is a.............

BOY!! (I know the cake looks kinda green...but it is blue)

Congratulations to Dayna and Randy and Brooke and Drew!!! We are so excited!!!

Congratulations to Bruce on his graduation and getting his Orthodontic degree. We are so proud of him and grateful to Tiffany for all her support.

It was extra special to have Mom and Dad come with us to Louisville and have them a part of this special occasion and to visit Louisville where Dad graduated from 62 years ago and Mom served her mission. A very special city for them.

These were all the graduatng residents along with Dr. Eric Bednar (in the middle). He teaches at U of L orthodontic program (Elder Bednar's son)

Summer Flowers

I took Brooke with me to the hardware store today to get a new lock for the lakehouse shed and I also wanted to get her a watering can so she can water my flowers. The color choices were orange, green, or blue. She picked blue and I told her that was a good choice....it matches her eyes. So she tried it out when we got home. We have had enough rain that she didn't really need to water them....but she likes doing it anyway.
Here's THE BOYS after a walk. Yes, Drew is holding a princess wand....that is what happens when you have an older sister.

Texas Trip

We had a great trip to Texas to visit withDenise and Brandon and Brayden and 11 week old Kaleb and to attend his baby blessing. Isn't he adorable?!
This is hoping the remote will work taking our picture. It did!

The day we had to leave we had breakfast around the pool.

Saturday was the best day of the weekend and we spent most of it at the lakehouse. It was warm and sunny with no wind (which was nice). It was just a beautiful day. The kids were able to swim and play and the adults just enjoyed a relaxing time in the sun.

Monday was a different story. It was cloudy and cool and it even tried to rain on us. We did get our bbq in and everyone that came had a good time. I just didn't get pictures of everyone that was there. Here's just a few pictures.

It was too cold to swim so some went fishing instead.

Some of Blake's expressons remind me of Payton when he was Blake's age....so I had to get a picture of them together.

Preschool

Today was Brooke's last preschool class for the year. She had a little program that parents/grandparents/baby sitters could come and watch their little performance. I was able to break away from the office to help Debbie with the little boys so she could video it for Dayna and Randy since Dayna had to work today.

Cubs Game

We didn't know if we were going to make it to the Cubs game tonight cause it rained most the day. But around 5 pm it wasn't raining and we thought they might play. Brian and Heather invited me and Les to go with them as a birthday present for Les. With such a rainy day....we made alternate plans.....to all go out to eat at Outback. Instead we took our chances and went to Wrigley Field. The game was delayed about 40 minutes and it wasn't even raining. We saw a great game....but had to leave early cause the bad storm was coming...with the Cubs winning. By the time we got home.....it was in rain delay.

We went to the zoo this weekend. Dayna had a continuing ed seminar so we all got in free and free parking. It was really nice cause we got in one hour before the zoo opened so we walked around without any crowds and before it got too warm.
Opps....the photographer got a lot of sky...but not the babies in the strollers.

Morton Arboretum

It wasn't exactly a spring-like day today but I had free passes for the tram ride at the Morton Arboretum....I have had them for the whole year...but since they expire tomorrow....we HAD to use them today. We were going to go on Friday afternoon....when the temperatures we in the upper 70's but it was a free day and we figured it would be really crowded. Turns out the driver of the tram said they had 19,000 people come thru the Arboretum on Friday. So we went today instead...and it was rather chilly....52 degrees.
Look who we ran in to at the park....Chloe and George Watson! They were on the ride with us.

The daffodils were in full bloom.

Then we had to go to lunch at Portillo's. People are always stopping to ask about the boys and if they are twins. They are definately a "show stopper".

Take Me Out To The Ballgame

John so generously gave us and Scott and Jill his White Sox tickets (he was going to the Blackhawks game). We drove in a downpour to get to the game. We left our house and it was 75 degrees outside. Two hours later it was at best...40 degrees. But we brought coats and gloves just in case...and John gave us extra coats and blankets. We were set!!

Got to have a Chicago hot dog at the ball park! And the White Sox won (and so did the Blackhawks... and Bulls and Cubs on Sunday). After the game there were fireworks! It was a lot of fun!

We are so thrilled to announce another grandchild. Denise and Brandon welcomed little Kaleb Wardell Gardner into the world on Sat. morning March 14, 2009 at 2:42 am. He weighed 7 pounds and 14 oz. He is 19 inches long and perfect in every way. Congratulations to Denise and Brandon and big sister, Brayden!!

We had Natalie's family birthday party on Sat. (Valentine's Day). It's hard to believe she is 4 years old!! Her actual birthday is the 18th.

Debbie made these delicious heart brownies. They were so yummy.

I made these easy yummy treats. They are circle "ring" pretzels or you can use small "knot" pretzels. Place a Rolo candy on each pretzel. Place on cookie sheet in oven on lowest setting for about 5 minutes. Remove from oven and place a pecan half on the Rolo candy. They are really good. Like a "turtle treat".

Our community has a magazine that is published every month with feature stories about our town and events, happenings, advertisements and about our businesses. The magazine is called "The Glancer". They have a section that you can submit for the kid photo contest. In the Fall Debbie submitted Blake's picture in the pumpkin patch and he was chosen to be printed and won a gift certificate to MY GYM....a children's fitness center.
Well this month he was the big winner when she submitted his photo "Be Like Mike".

Holiday Treats

This picture was supposed to be at the end of my blog....but it got out of order. I am not very good at this blogging thing....so I make many mistakes. As you read on you will see that it fits better at the end.

I've got alittle catching up to do. I haven't posted any pictures in awhile...that's what the holidays will do to ya.

This was only 6 short weeks ago. We had a beautiful Fall and now we are in the depths of winter.

On this particular Autumn day we raked leaves with the kids and they played in the leaf piles.

When Bruce and Tiffany and family were here for Thanksgiving.....we all took a train ride to Chicago and went to the Sears Tower. Here we are all waiting for the train.

About a week ago...we had our annual chocolate dipping session. Everyone helped!

Last Saturday night was our ward Christmas party. Here the kids are getting ready to sing.

We want to wish you a Happy Anniversary. We hope you will enjoy the selection of family pictures from over the years. What a glorious 61 years!
I won't even begin to put dates on the pictures....some are out of order just a little. But this first one we know for sure Nov. 26, 1947. What a great beginning for a wonderful family. You should be so proud!
Fast forward to about 1958........and then enjoy the memories......

This was a surprise picture we had taken for Dad. If you look close you will see a bowl with a spoon behind Brent (opps) on the mantle and in the other room on the left...is the ironing board and iron. Brent forgot to tighten up his tie for the picture.

We tried it again another year....for a surprise picture for Dad....that's why he isn't in these two.

Texas Trip

We had a wonderful few days with Denise and Brandon and Brayden. The weather was beautiful. Who wouldn't love 80 degrees in mid November. We went to a movie with Brayden. We didn't last too long....she didn't like it when the lights went out. The only reason we have sweathers on is because of the air conditioning.

She liked the posters in the movie theaters the best!

We went to the Children's museum. I have a membership and it was good there too.

More Halloween Activities

This past Saturday the town where our office is had Trick or Treating at all the stores and businesses. Tyler and Natalie made the rounds then came to help me pass out candy and toothpaste. They were such good helpers and did such a great job.
Natalie and Brooke were happy to see each other in their costumes. Natalie is a butterfly and Brooke is TinkerBell.

Tyler was helping to keep Drew entertained in his seat.

Then Sunday night Blake and Drew just "hanging out" together. Boy...aren't these two going to be best buds as they grow up together....and then add Denise and Brandon's little guy to the "party".....oh....I can see the fun family reunions now!!

It's Only A Game......

We have all been pretty bummed about the Cubs......Bruce and Tiffany and kids arrived on Thurs. night just in time to watch the Cubs.......lose.
But on Friday happier times prevailed. Uncle Scott took the boys to the lake to fish. Wow...were they excited. We all joined up with them a little later. There will be more pictures posted later as I get them.

We enjoyed pizza and kids.

Remember the turtle eggs that the kids found buried in the sand around the 4th of July. Well Scott and Jeff "saved" them and took them home and they hatched about a month ago. He has been taking care of them so that when Devon and Carter came back to visit they could see the turtles that hatched.....about 10 of them.

Here are all the kids gathered around to see the turtles.

We had a "launching party".....they all had a turtle and let them all go "back to their family" in the lake. They were soft shell water turtles (I think that is what Scott told me).

We made a nice fire to roast marshmellows and make s'mores....and keep warm. The nights are chilly.

Anniversary/Go Cubs Go

Today we celebrated our 36th wedding anniversary. Brian and Heather treated us to lunch at Petterini's (same restaurant we celebrated with Annie and Steve's wedding reception). We loved it so much we wanted to go back. Then we went to see Wicked. It was sooooo good. We went to the Saturday afternoon show.
That evening we went over to Debbie and Ryan's and make peanut butter popcorn balls. But the only pictures I got were of Drew in a Cubs cap.

Friday Night Lights

We went with Dayna and kids to Randy's football game where he is a varisty coach. It was their school's homecoming game. We only stayed until half-time. But Brooke was so happy to see her daddy. During football season she doesn't get to see him fridays.

A Visit to Uncle Scott's

We stopped by Uncle Scott's house tonight to visit the turtles. Back in July when we were at the lake and the kids were digging in the sand they came upon some turtle eggs. So the kids buried them again and left them alone. Well Scott and Jeff went back to get the eggs and made a little sand/water incubator for them and they hatched. So we took Brooke over to see them. She was so excited. She held them for a brief minute. (Then washed her hands really good.)

She also loves Scott's rats and he got out a baby one for her to hold.

We put as many as we could on a lid but they kept running away. That is Kobe's nose in the right of the picture.

Tyler made this for me....here is the story.

Tyler came up to me after his primary class on sunday and asked me if I had a pocket. I didn't have a pocket in my skirt.....but I told him I had a purse. He found my primary bag and took something out of his pocket and put it in a zipper pocket of my bag....then he zipped it shut.
He said I couldn't open it until the next morning. He then told me he had 2 more "notes" to pass out to 2 more people. He kept his hands in his pockets to protect those "notes".
We had dinner at Tyler's house that sunday evening. After dinner I asked him if he gave his "notes" to anyone else yet. He said he hadn't. He had to give them to someone that he wants to be nice to.
He reminded me that I couldn't look at it until "tomorrow morning". I told him I wouldn't look at it until tomorrow.
Well "tomorrow morning" came and I looked at the "note" that Tyler zipped into my purse pocket.....and this is what I found.

I was very touched. It was so sweet. I called Tyler that afternoon to ask him who he gave the other "notes" to and he said, "Natalie and mom". He had it in his mind that they were for the women in his life. What a smart boy!

It was a beautiful day at the lake today. We are enjoying having mom and dad/grandma and grandpa visiting. The weather was perfect today. Aren't they a great looking couple?!

Happy Birthday Bruce

Just wanted to wish Bruce a very happy birthday (July 28). Thought everyone would get a kick out of these first pictures of us with our first born. Bruce has brought us so much joy into our lives. We are so thankful for him and his beautiful family.
I think this picture was his blessing day. That was our church in Provo in the background.

This picture was taken coming home from the hospital in Rexburg. (We moved to Provo when he was only a few weeks old).

When Bruce and Tiffany and kids visited us over July 4th weekend we gave Bruce his birthday present then. Debbie had typed all his emails from Iraq and compiled them with his pictures and sent it off to be made into a hardbound book. It makes a great journal of his service to his country. If you click on the pictures you can see it enlarged.

Cousin Time

Deanna and Nathan visited the lakehouse again this year. It is always so fun for cousins to get together every year. Tyler really enjoyed bigger cousin Nathan. We got together for sunday dinner just before they left to go home. Can't wait till next year!
